AI photo tagging – sort photos with AI automatically

Adding keywords by hand, picture by picture? Hardly anyone keeps that up. Album 42 tags your pictures by itself: the image recognition assigns every picture to topics such as People, Landscape, Logo, Food & drink or Texture. You create your own tags with one click – and they apply to all pictures right away. That is how the AI sorts your photos by topic, on your computer and without the cloud.

How to sort photos with AI

1

Scan

Scan a folder. The image recognition then analyses every picture in the background.

2

Choose a tag

The tag menu at the top right contains ready-made tags. One click switches a tag on, a second click switches it off.

3

Your own tags

Type a term into the search field and click the plus next to it – your new tag is ready.

Combine and exclude tags

Several tags apply together: “Aircraft” and “Blue sky” shows only pictures that match both. Right-clicking a tag hides all pictures with that content – all screenshots, for example.

Your own tags without rescanning

A tag is a saved search by image content. That is why a new tag works on the whole catalogue at once, without the pictures being scanned again. Under “Edit tags” you show, hide or delete tags.

Recognised tags for every picture

For the picture you click, the detail panel shows which tags match – plus its main colours. A click on a tag shows all pictures with that tag. More about searching under search photos on your PC.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have my photos sorted automatically by AI?

Yes. After scanning, the image recognition looks at every picture and assigns it to topics such as People, Landscape, Animals, Food & drink or Logo. A click on a topic shows all matching photos, from all folders.

Does Album 42 write the tags into my files?

No. Tags are kept in the Album 42 catalogue; your files stay unchanged.

How accurate is the automatic tagging?

The image recognition sorts by similarity to a term. In the filter menu you choose “strict”, “normal” or “generous”. It does not recognise persons.

Are my pictures uploaded for this?

No. The image recognition runs on your computer.

Does it run on Windows 11 and on the Mac?

Yes – on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and on macOS 12 or later, on Macs with Apple silicon and with Intel processors.
