vector graphics as previews

EPS, AI and SVG thumbnails on Windows 11 and Mac

In File Explorer, vector graphics usually show up as an icon: logos as EPS, drafts as AI, icons as SVG. Album 42 shows them as thumbnails – together with PDF, WMF and EMF – in one catalogue with all your other pictures.

How it works

1

Scan the folder

Select the folder with your vector graphics and click “Scan”.

2

View

Thumbnails in the overview; a double-click shows the graphic full size.

3

Find

With the filter “File type → Vector / CAD”, the tag “Logo” and the colour search you find the right file.

These vector formats

SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, WMF and EMF, plus CorelDRAW (see CDR viewer). Vector graphics are never hidden by the filter for pictures that are too small – even tiny icons stay visible.

EPS needs Ghostscript

For EPS files Album 42 uses the free Ghostscript. If it is not installed, Settings → Add-on programs shows the download link. On the Mac, the free Inkscape is added for WMF and EMF.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Windows 11 show no preview for SVG or EPS?

Because Windows does not come with a preview extension for these formats. Album 42 creates the thumbnail itself.

Do I need the program the files were made with?

No. For EPS you only need the free Ghostscript.

Are PDF files shown too?

Yes, PDF files also appear with a thumbnail.

Does it run on Windows 11 and on the Mac?

Yes – on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and on macOS 12 or later, on Macs with Apple silicon and with Intel processors.
