the original stays as it is
Label AI images – with logo and metadata, on the copy only
Editing AI images one by one and keeping two copies of each? No need. In Album 42 you mark a picture as an AI image. The logo and the AI note are only added when you pass it on: when copying or dragging it into a folder or a program. Your originals stay unchanged.
How to label your pictures
Mark
Select a picture and press K. This also works for many pictures at once. The mark is stored in the catalogue only.
Set it up once
In the AI image designer you set logo, size, colour and position. That then applies to all pictures.
Pass it on
Copy it or drag it into a folder: the target receives a copy with the logo, the original stays where it is.
Why on the copy only?
If you bake the logo into your pictures, you end up with altered originals or every picture twice. Album 42 does it the other way round: the catalogue only notes that it is an AI image. The copy with the logo is created when you pass it on. One click on “AI logo” at the bottom of the window switches this off when you want to pass on a picture without a logo. Moving files within Album 42 never changes anything in the file.
Your logo, your position
The AI image designer shows you straight away how it looks. Pick a corner or drag the logo with the mouse to any position. Set the size and opacity as well. You can choose the Album 42 mark in black, white, gold and silver, also as a frame with a transparent centre, the symbols of the European Commission, or your own logo, which you upload once. The size adapts to the picture, so the logo looks the same on small and large pictures.
All variants at a glance
Choose what suits your pictures. Opacity, size and position can be set freely for every variant.

The AI note in the metadata
When dragging and saving, Album 42 writes the IPTC note “created with AI” or “modified with AI” into the copy. Whatever is already in the file is kept. If you like, add a note and a name for the image credit. The detail panel shows you whether a file itself contains an AI note. A copy on the clipboard carries the logo but cannot take metadata along. And many platforms strip metadata on upload; then the visible logo remains.
Do I have to label every AI image?
No, not every one. The EU rules (Art. 50 of the AI Act, since 2 August 2026) require a visible notice mainly for professional use of pictures that look deceptively real, for example an invented person in advertising or a product that looks better than it is. Purely private use is exempt, and clearly recognisable comics or fantasy motifs are not covered. The notice must be clearly recognisable at the latest when first seen; something easy to miss, such as a line in the terms of use, is not enough according to the guidelines of the European Commission. It always depends on the individual case, and the courts have not yet decided most of it. Album 42 helps you label, but it does not replace legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Does Album 42 change my originals?
No. The mark is stored in the catalogue only. Logo and AI note go exclusively onto the copy that is passed on.
Can I pass on a marked picture without a logo?
Yes. One click on “AI logo” at the bottom of the window switches the logo off, and everything goes out unchanged. Whether you need to label a picture is your decision.
Which formats work?
JPG, PNG, WebP and TIFF keep their format. RAW, Photoshop, CorelDRAW and similar files are output as JPG with a logo. Animated pictures and multi-page files stay without a logo.
Does this work with videos?
No. A logo would mean re-rendering the whole video. That is why Album 42 only labels pictures; videos go out unchanged.
How many pictures at once?
Up to 20 marked pictures when dragging. For more, use “Save with AI logo …” in the right-click menu: Album 42 then puts all copies into a folder of your choice and never overwrites anything.
Is my picture legally on the safe side with this?
No program can promise that. Whether and how you need to label depends on the picture and how it is used. If in doubt, it is best to ask a lawyer.
