That’s what your graphics collection looks like in Explorer.
CorelDRAW, Photoshop, RAW, video – Album 42 shows them all.
Pros need pro tools.
The AI recognises what your images show. No keywords needed – and it runs on your computer, not on the internet.
Drag pictures onto a folder – and they’re in it. Several at once, even onto another drive. Oops? Ctrl+Z, ⌘Z on the Mac, brings them back.
One click takes you to the folder the image is in. Or straight to Explorer or Finder.

even the drive from 2009!External drives, USB sticks, SD cards: unplugged and still searchable.
Phone photos know where they were taken. Album 42 shows them on the globe – zoom in, and below you only see the photos from that area. The map and place names are built in, your photos stay on your computer.
Two handles, and you only see the images from those months – photos by capture date, all other files by modification date. Combined with place and search: Spain, August 2019.
File Explorer only creates thumbnails for common photo and video formats. CorelDRAW, Photoshop, Illustrator, PDF, SVG, HDR or 3D remain grey icons – even with all of Microsoft’s extensions. The Finder on the Mac does a little more, but it doesn’t show CorelDRAW, Illustrator, web fonts or 3D models either. Album 42 shows 81 formats – on both systems.¹
Our own test (October 2026) with sample files: File Explorer thumbnails on Windows 11 and Finder thumbnails on macOS 26, counting the 81 formats that Album 42 reads itself. Formats that Windows only shows with an extension from the Microsoft Store (*) are counted for Windows, and all camera RAW formats for the Mac.
¹ For EPS and some rare video formats, Album 42 uses the free programs Ghostscript and ffmpeg; Album 42 sets up ffmpeg itself with one click. On the Mac, WMF and EMF also need the free Inkscape, and Album 42 shows 3MF there only with a built-in preview image.
Where’s that holiday photo from 2014? Which CorelDRAW file had the logo? And what’s actually on that old hard drive in the cupboard? There’s one answer to all of it – and it’s 42.
Album 42 – more than just the answer to everything. (Tip: just type 42 …)Win+Shift+S, ⌘⇧4 on the Mac, or “Copy image” in your browser – Album 42 keeps it.
Drag & drop images straight into your layout, presentation or email.
Mark an image and it gets your logo and the AI information in the metadata when you copy it or drag it out. You set once how the logo looks and where it sits.
Drag a rectangle – and the area is already on the clipboard. That works in the middle of a video too, because Album 42 plays MP4 and MOV itself.
Size, format, recognised topics – and the main colours of the subject. One click copies the colour value as HEX, RGB, CMYK or as the nearest RAL shade.
Orange and landscape together – and you see all the sunsets. Combine both freely, even with the search.
Right-click on an image, “Find similar images” – and Album 42 shows everything that looks similar.
One click rotates the picture by 90°, another flips it. Crooked horizon? Grab the picture at a corner and turn it straight. Save – the capture date and GPS stay intact. Changed your mind? “Restore original” brings it back.
Take your time to try it. Then pay once – done.
Without a license, Album 42 can no longer scan new folders. Your catalogue stays – viewing, searching and opening keep working.
No. You pay €29 once and keep Album 42 for good, with all updates to version 1.
On the old computer, go to Settings → License and click “Deactivate on this computer”, then enter the license key on the new one – this also works from Windows to Mac and vice versa.
No. The catalogue and the image recognition run on your computer. Album 42 only goes online to check the license, for updates, once to download the image recognition and – only if you want it to – for error reports and the detail map in the “Places” view.
Yes. The “Places” view shows photos with a location on a world map, the way phones and drones save it. Album 42 reads the location while scanning, also for photos that are already in the catalogue. The map and place names are built in; only the detail map with streets and buildings comes from the internet, if you want it.
Yes. Select pictures and drag them onto a folder in the folder tree – several at once and onto other drives, too. Stars, tags and thumbnails are kept, and files with the same name are never overwritten.
Only if you want it to. Thumbnails and tags are kept in a separate catalogue. If you drag pictures into another folder, Album 42 moves them there – “Undo” brings them back. A rotated or straightened picture is only written to the file when you click “Save”, and “Restore original” brings back the previous version. If you delete a file yourself, it goes to the Recycle Bin or Trash.
No. Album 42 reads the previews of these files itself. Only for EPS and rare video formats does it use the free programs Ghostscript or ffmpeg.
Yes. Album 42 was created because we were looking for an up-to-date program like ThumbsPlus: thumbnails for many formats across all drives – plus AI search by image content, previews for CorelDRAW, Photoshop and camera RAW, and full support for Windows 11. If you know ThumbsPlus, you will quickly feel at home. (ThumbsPlus is a trademark of Cerious Software.)
For new programs, Windows sometimes shows the message “Windows protected your PC”. Click “More info” and then “Run anyway”.
Open the DMG file and drag Album 42 into the Applications folder. Album 42 is notarized by Apple; on first launch macOS only asks whether you want to open the app downloaded from the internet. Album 42 then shows you how to turn on Full Disk Access – after that it catalogues all folders without asking about each one.
Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit) and macOS 12 (Monterey) or later – on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 to M4) and with Intel processors.
Because, as everyone knows, 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. Album 42 also answers the question of where that one picture is.
No sign-up. No subscription. A one-off €29 – and Album 42 is yours.
